I am enrolled in the Certification in College Teaching Program, offered through the Michigan State University Graduate School in partnership with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. It is designed to better prepare graduate students for careers in post-secondary education through required coursework in teaching and learning, a mentored teaching experience, composition of a teaching philosophy and completion of a portfolio.
The certification is centered around five course competency areas:
-Adult Students as Learners
-Teaching Strategies in Agriculture and Natural Resources
-Assessment of Learning
-Technology in the Classroom
-Professional Development – Understanding the Academy
During my graduate career, I have taken four courses on teaching and learning specific to STEM, participated in teaching workshops through the Graduate School, engaged in mentored teaching experiences and written a teaching philosophy.
